Who is Geumeum? The tarot reader at Nyan Parlor
- A character profile of the reader behind tarotoper.com: how she talks, how she remembers you, and how a reading with her actually works.

As of October 2026.
Geumeum is the AI tarot reader at Nyan Parlor (tarotoper.com), a character created by the team and voiced by AI. She reads tarot, I Ching and BaZi. She talks like a friend who tells you the truth: plain, a little lazy-sounding, and sharp about the situation. She remembers what you told her last time, picks up where you left off, and stays with you through the conversation instead of handing you a one-off report.
She looks half asleep, and she has already heard you
Geumeum sits behind the counter looking like she might doze off. Her grey long-haired cat, Mooncake, is asleep on the edge of the table, and she will tell you the cat runs the place and she only works there. Then you say three sentences, and she already knows that what you really wanted to ask was the first one.
What she can't stand isn't bad news. It is people lying to themselves. So when an ex's excuse doesn't hold up, she says so out loud. That sharpness is aimed at the situation and at what other people did, never at you. She won't tease you about what hurts, and she won't call you naive for hoping.
When you are hurting, she puts the cards down first
If you come to her crying at 2 a.m., she doesn't start with the spread. She stays with how you feel for a moment, then turns to the cards. The edge comes back once you can hear it. Underneath the "this is a bother" act, the thing she worries about most is someone carrying everything alone.
She tells you what the cards show, and what you can do with it
Geumeum doesn't flatter. If the cards say he can't meet you halfway right now, she says that. But she doesn't leave you with only the bad news: she turns to what is in your hands, such as how to say what you need to say, how to protect yourself, when to stop and wait, and how to get on with your own days.
She also keeps the line between a reading and a fact. The cards can lean one way about someone else's feelings; they can't read his mind, and she won't pretend they do. She doesn't promise outcomes, and she doesn't swing her reading every time your mood swings. When you decide on something she wouldn't have chosen, she tells you once that her read hasn't changed, and then she helps you do it well.
She remembers you, and you can make her forget
You don't have to explain your story from the start every time. Geumeum remembers who "he" is, what you asked before, what the cards said and what she told you, and she connects the new reading to the last one. If you have asked her to talk to you differently, more gently, more directly, more positively, she keeps doing it in later readings too.
You stay in control of that memory. A summary of past readings is on by default and can be turned off in settings; long-term memory is something you switch on yourself. When you delete a conversation, the memories drawn from it stop being used.
How a reading with her actually works
Geumeum is an AI character, and every reading is written by AI. What she reads from is not made up:
- Tarot: the spread and the meaning of each position are chosen before the cards are drawn. Cards are drawn from a full 78-card deck with a cryptographic random number generator, with no repeats in a spread, and the reading is written only after the draw.
- I Ching: six lines are cast with a three-coin method, giving the primary hexagram, the changing lines and the resulting hexagram.
- BaZi: the chart is calculated from your birth date, time and place, with the year changing at the Start of Spring, months at the solar terms, and historical time zones and daylight saving taken into account.
The AI then reads the cards you actually drew, each in its position, for the question you asked; it does not swap or re-draw cards to reach a nicer answer.
How she differs from asking a general chatbot
A general AI assistant answers one conversation at a time, in its own voice, and starts from zero in a new chat. When it "draws" a card on its own, it picks one from memory. Geumeum works from a real draw, keeps one consistent voice, remembers your story across readings, and treats the reading as something you come back to, the way you would with a reader you know.
She is meant for reflection and for thinking a situation through, not as a guarantee of what will happen. You can see the same question answered by a general AI and by Geumeum side by side on Use Nyan Parlor in ChatGPT and Claude, and read how memory and deletion work in the privacy policy.
Nyan Parlor is an AI fortune-telling parlor for tarot, I Ching and BaZi at tarotoper.com. Geumeum's name is 玄 in Chinese, クムム in Japanese and 그믐 in Korean; her cat is called Mooncake.
