The 10 Day Masters in BaZi

In BaZi, your Day Master is the heavenly stem of the day you were born: the one character in your Chinese birth chart that stands for you. Every other character is read in relation to it, as something that supports you, something you produce, something you control or something that puts you under pressure. There are ten Day Masters, one for each heavenly stem, and each is pictured as something in nature, from the tall Jia Wood tree to the soft Gui Water rain.

The ten come in five yin-yang pairs, one pair for each element: Jia and Yi (Wood), Bing and Ding (Fire), Wu and Ji (Earth), Geng and Xin (Metal), and Ren and Gui (Water). The yang stem is the bigger, more outward form of its element and the yin stem the subtler, more adaptable one: a tree and a vine, the sun and a candle, a mountain and a garden, a sword and a jewel, the ocean and the rain.

Pick yours below to read its personality, strengths and challenges, career, money and love patterns, how it changes with the season you were born in, and which elements tend to help it. Don't know yours yet? Make your chart with the BaZi calculator; the Day Master is the top character of the day pillar. And remember that it is a starting point rather than the whole story: your birth season, the other seven characters and your Luck Pillars all shape how your Day Master shows up.
